NOTES: Dallas does it!
Today's win gave Dallas its ninth win of the season to mark the club's 33rd winning season in franchise history. The Dallas Cowboys drove 79 yards on five plays culminating with a Tony Romo-to-Miles Austin touchdown on their opening possession. It was the first time the Cowboys had a touchdown on their opening drive since the club went 71 yards in five plays with a Romo-to-Martellus Bennett touchdown hookup against Seattle (11/27/08). Dallas then scored on its second possession tonight to mark the first time since the Seattle game (11/27/08) that the Cowboys have scored touchdowns on their first two drives of the game. The Cowboys took their first drive of the second half down the field for a touchdown. Tonight's game marked the first time Dallas scored on both opening possessions of the half since at the N.Y. Giants (11/11/07). Dallas had 156 passing yards in the first quarter tonight. It was the most first quarter passing yards by the team since 1991 - as far back that can be researched tonight. The previous high was 150 against Phoenix (9/20/92). Dallas' 195 yards of total offense in the first frame was also the most by the club since 1991. The previous high was 190 against Philadelphia (10/9/05). The Cowboys amassed 439 yards of total offense today to give them 5,523 through 14 games - the most in team history through 14 games. The Cowboys 439 yards of offense today marked the seventh game of 400-or-more yards this season which is the most in a season in club history. Austin's 139 yards upped his season total to 1,138 to give him his first career 1,000-yard season. It also marked the fifth consecutive season the Cowboys had a pass catcher top 1,000 yards, the 24th time in the history of the club and the 11th different Cowboys to accomplish the feat. With Austin's 1,138 receiving yards and Tony Romo's 3,886 passing yards this season, the WR/QB duo became just the second set of undrafted free agents to produce a 1,000-yard receiver and 3,000-yard passer. The first was Mike Furrey and Jon Kitna in 2006. Austin's 139 receiving yards today marked his fifth 100-yard outing of the season and sixth of his career. Austin also notched his 11th touchdown of the season - the sixth-most in a season in club history. He is also one of just five players in franchise history with more than 10 touchdowns in a season. Marion Barber's 17 carries today gave him 898 for his career to pass Julius Jones (885) for seventh in club history. Barber's two rushing touchdowns today gave him 42 for his career to tie him with Don Perkins for third all-time in team history. It also marked his 10th career multi-rushing touchdown game to tie Tony Dorsett for the second-most in team history. David Buehler added two touchbacks today to give him 23 for the season - leaving him four shy of Lin Elliott for the most in a Cowboys season since 1991. Victor Butler earned his first career start tonight in place of DeMarcus Ware, who saw time in passing situations after suffering a neck injury last week. Patrick Crayton had two punt returns today to give him 105 for his career to pass Bob Hayes (104) for the fourth-most punt returns in team history. With his six points, Folk now has 23 for his career to break a tie with Toni Fritsch (317) and pass Richie Cunningham (320) for eighth in career points in club history. Mike Jenkins added his fifth interception of the season in the second quarter tonight.
