Cowboys sign two free agents
The fourth-year defensive lineman finished the 2013 season with 21 tackles, a pressure and a fumble recovery, playing in all 16 games for the first time in his career. He came to Houston midway through the 2012 season and played in three games.
He entered the 2012 season with the New England Patriots, played at Buffalo (9/30) but was released on Oct. 3. McClain began his NFL career with the Carolina Panthers as the club's third round (65th overall) draft pick in 2011. As a rookie McClain started all 12 games he played before suffering a season-ending knee injury. For the season, he posted 20 tackles and one sack. McClain finished his collegiate career with 33 starts in 50 games at South Florida. He was in on 89 tackles, 17 for losses, 7.5 sacks, 10 pressures, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and a pass defensed. He prepped at Pensacola, Fla., High School where he was a Class 3A first-team all-state selection in 2006.
Mincey, a seventh-year veteran, was drafted by the New England Patriots in the sixth round (191st overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft. He was released at the final cut date of his first training camp and signed to the San Francisco 49ers practice squad. He signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Dec. 4 and was inactive for the final three games of his rookie season. He returned to the Jaguars in 2007 to play in six games and two playoff contests, notching 12 tackles, a sack and six pressures.
Mincey returned to Jacksonville in 2008, beginning the season on the Reserve/PUP list with a wrist injury suffered in the offseason. He was activated on Nov. 26 and played in three games to post six tackles and a sack. In 2009 he spent most of the preseason with the Jaguars but was released on Aug. 26 and was out of football for the season. He re-signed with Jacksonville on Jan. 20, 2010 and played in a career-high 15 games with eight starts, despite playing part of the season with a broken hand. His eight starts were in each of the final eight games, and he led the team with a career-high five sacks with 25 pressures (second on the team), 69 tackles, six for losses, and four pass breakups. In 2011 Mincey started all 16 games for the Jaguars and had career-highs with 101 tackles, eight sacks, four forced fumbles, seven tackles for losses, 45 pressures and his first career interception. Mincey again started all 16 contests in 2012 and notched 74 tackles, four for losses, three sacks, two forced fumbles, four pass breakups and a fumble recovery for Jacksonville.
He began the 2013 season with the Jaguars, playing in eight games and finishing with 14 tackles, three for losses, two sacks, three pressures and a breakup. He was released on Dec. 13 and signed with the Denver Broncos on Dec. 17. and played in the final two regular season games and all three playoff games, including Super Bowl XLVIII. In the two regular season games, Mincey had one tackle. He spent his final two collegiate seasons at Florida after transferring from Butler Community College in Kansas. He started all 24 games he played for the Gators and earned second-team All-SEC honors as a senior. Mincey lettered two years in football and played on the basketball team at Statesboro, Ga., High School.
