Biography:
Penciled in as the starting left defensive tackle entering preseason drills, Jones must hold off Justin Harrell and juco transfer Zarnell Fitch to keep his job. Blessed with great size and speed, Jones has the tools to be a superstar someday. Hails from the Jonesboro (Ark.) High, the same school which produced ex-Vols Leslie Ratliff and Reggie Coleman. 2002 - Recorded 10 tackles (one for minus yardage) while seeing reserve action in 11 of Tennessee’s 13 games. High school - Splitting time between linebacker and defensive end over the course of his junior and senior seasons, Jones compiled 212 tackles with 17 sacks, six fumble recoveries, seven caused fumbles, 12 blocked passes and one interception. He recorded 21 tackles in a single playoff game against 5A state champion Springdale. He also started at left tackle where he never allowed a sack and dominated in every phase of the game. Jones is also an all-state basketball player who sacrificed his senior season in order to ready himself for college football. Tennessee beat out Arkansas and Ole Miss for his services, although he turned down visits to Nebraska, Notre Dame and Michigan State. Named All-America by PrepStar, SuperPrep, Max Emfinger and Borderwars.com. Rated the country's No. 15 defensive tackle prospect by Rivals.com. Borderwars.com ranks him as the nation's No. 29 defensive tackle prospect. PrepStar rated him the No. 12 defensive line prospect in the Southeast region. He was the nation's No. 27 Offensive Line prospect according to SuperPrep and the No. 3 prospect in Arkansas.
