Defense to blame too
Terence Newman/AP

The Cowboys lost the game on Sunday in unforgettable and regrettable fashion.

Four turnovers, including three interceptions by quarterback Tony Romo, were the difference in the 33-31 loss in the inaugural game at Cowboys Stadium.

Some solace can be taken in that the Cowboys are accepting blame and being accountable for their poor play.

Romo said Sunday night that he cost the Cowboys the game with his poor decision-making.

"I'm really, really disappointed in myself right now," Romo said. "You work so hard, and to play like that ... I'm really not OK with it right now. I'll try to rectify and get better. We'll be better. I'll be better.

"I think you can tell the guys have been working really hard to be putting themselves in good position to have a good season ... I kind of took that away."

But he wasn't alone.

Cornerback Terence Newman and Orlando Scandrick, who were both torched by the Giants receivers, also took responsibility.

"It was a team effort tonight and we didn't get the job done," Newman said. "The defense didn't play very good. The offense didn't play very good. It's not just one thing. We're not bad cornerbacks. (Romo) isn't a bad quarterback. We're not a bad team. But we played poor tonight. You can't win like that."
