Terence Newman likely will miss the remainder of the preseason, but still should be available for the Sept. 9 season opener against the Giants according to Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips.
A strained heel will cause Newman to miss Saturday's game with Houston and likely the final preseason game next Thursday at Minnesota.
"It's a little worse than we thought it was," Phillips said Thursday. "He's been out for a week anyway, so in and out, it'll probably be a two-week thing, just into next week. I'll be surprised if he plays in the Thursday game either."
Aaron Glenn will get the start in place of Newman for the final two preseason games.
Fullback Oliver Hoyte (stinger) and tight end Anthony Fasano (shoulder) are also expected to miss Saturday's game against the Texans.
