Watkins Agrees to Terms

Free safety out of FSU becomes the second draft pick to agree to terms with Dallas.

The Dallas Cowboys agreed to terms with their fifth round selection of the 2006 NFL Draft on Wednesday.

Pat Watkins, the 138th pick in the April's draft agreed to a four-year deal worth approximately $1.7 million.

Watkins is expected to compete with veteran safety Marcus Coleman and Keith Davis for playing time at the free safety position once training camp starts Saturday in Oxnard, Calif.

Seventh-round draft pick Pat McQuistan (Weber State) also agreed to a four-year deal Monday.

In 2005 Watkins had 77 tackles for the Seminoles, along with three interceptions and five tackles-for-loss.

Watkins told TheRanchReport.com earlier this year, "Finding a cover safety is very difficult. The main thing in a free safety is range, ball skills, plus he's got to be smart and he's got to have the mental capacity to konw what's going on and be able to react and recognize quickly."
