The New York Giants couldn't get out of their own way as six turnovers derailed their chances of earning a divisional win in regular season opener.

It was a nightmarish game for Tom Coughlin and company as the New York Giants committed a whopping six turnovers en route to a 36-31 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night.

On Eli Manning’s first play from scrimmage, No. 10 flung a screen pass in the direction of running back David Wilson, but Cowboys’ defensive end DeMarcus Ware stepped in for the interception. The miscue would set the tone for the night as Big Blue tallied three interceptions and three fumbles; gift wrapping Dallas its first win over New York at AT&T Stadium.

Victor Cruz was a lone bright spot for the Giants, hauling in three touchdowns and amassing 118 yards on five receptions. Wide receivers Hakeem Nicks and Rueben Randle eclipse the 100 yard plateau as Manning produced 450 yards through the air.

As for New York’s running game, second year running back David Wilson put the ball on the ground twice before Coughlin pulled him in favor of backup Da’Rel Scott early in the fourth quarter. Scott had a miscue of his own on New York’s ensuing possession as Manning’s pass bounced off the tailback’s hands and into the grasp of Cowboys’ cornerback Brandon Carr for a 49-yard interception return for a touchdown to seal the Giants’ fate.

Quarterback Tony Romo was efficient completing 36-of-49 passes for 263 yards including two touchdowns and just one interception. The Giants’ execution was lackluster and ball security non-existent as they tied the franchise mark with six turnovers.

New York returns home next Sunday to take on the Denver Broncos in this year’s installment of the “Manning Bowl.”
