2013 draft picks: 1st round (23, 25), 2(52), 3(83), 4(102, 120), 5(155), 6(189), 7 (213, 214, 229)
Minnesota traded away one of their big play threats in the disgruntled Percy Harvin. He's now a Seahawks and the Vikings own their first round pick. In free agency Minnesota did land former Packer Greg Jennings. If he can stay healthy and on the field he could be a dangerous wide receiver. Matt Cassell also signed with Minnesota, giving them a solid backup.
1) Wide Receiver
The signing of Jennings lessens the need to the Vikings to automatically draft a receiver with one of their two first rounds picks. But they need to address this position and could very well do it early. There's no question they could land a top flight receiver at No. 23 or 25. It's likely that Tavon Austin and Cordarrelle Patterson are off the board but players like Justin Hunter, Keenan Allen, DeAndre Hopkins and Robert Woods should be available.
Then again, it wouldn't surprise me to see Minnesota address defensive needs early and go receiver later in the draft.
Manti Te'o, Kevin Minter and Alec Ogletree are three inside linebackers that all Viking fans are eyeballing to Minnesota. Teams ahead of them like Chicago, New York (Giants) and Cincinnati all need linebacker help so it will be interesting to watch what happens in front of the Vikings. Kiko Alonso and Jon Bostic are middle ‘backers that could be taken in the second and third rounds respectively.
3) Defensive Tackle
Sylvester Williams and Jonathan Hankins are two defensive tackles to keep an eye on early in the draft. Minnesota could use a big body on the front.
4) Defensive Back
The Vikings have a good young safety to build around in Harrison Smith. They could use another safety in this draft. More pressing is cornerback. Using one of their first two selections would be ideal and it would be good value. Players like Desmond Trufant, D.J. Hayden, and Jamar Taylor would likely be available in the first round while Blidi Wreh-Wilson, David Amerson and Leon McFadden are potential second round cornerbacks for Minnesota.
5) Offensive Guard
The Vikings signed Seth Olsen but would like to upgrade and add depth at this position. Guards to watch for in the middle of the draft are Ryan Jensen, Alvin Bailey, Jeff Baca and Travis Bond.
